Newborn Screening and Genetics
Each year the Newborn Screening Program tests approximately 261,000 samples from nearly 225,000 newborns. Each sample is screened for 50 disorders.
NYMAC [1]is the New York Mid-Atlantic Caribbean Regional Genetics Network. This group ensures that individuals with heritable disorders and their families have access to quality care and appropriate genetic expertise and information in a region which includes Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health in collaboration with the Ferre Institute lead this project.
