Members of the Bacteriology and Parasitology Laboratories participated in “Wellness Day” at Tesago Elementary School in Clifton Park, engaging students in an exciting and educational public health experience. The outreach team included Ashley Alderman, Kate Wahl, Ashley Marcinkiewicz, Lynn Leach, Paris Strong, John Jurczynski, Majie Foster, and John Kelly, and was led by Kara Mitchell and James Chithalen.
Through three interactive sessions, students in grades three through five explored core public health topics such as proper hand hygiene, microscopy, PCR, and DNA sequencing. Wadsworth Center staff were impressed and inspired by the students’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and knowledge.
This event exemplified the power of cross-departmental collaboration to support early STEM engagement and promote public health awareness among young learners. It also reinforced Wadsworth’s re-established commitment to academic outreach and community education.
