The Laboratory of Viral Diseases hosted a two-day enterovirus molecular characterization workshop on July 28th and 29th. The training was sponsored by the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and included scientists from state public health laboratories in New Jersey, Oregon, Michigan, Washington, California, Massachusetts, and Nebraska.

The training, which was led by Wadsworth Center scientists, took place at the David Axelrod Institute and included lectures and assistance from Dr. Terry Fei Fan Ng, Team Lead for the Picornavirus Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Lectures and wet lab sessions were included on the determination and differentiation of enterovirus and rhinovirus utilizing real-time and conventional PCR, Sanger and whole genome sequencing, and sequence assembly and analysis.
