The Wadsworth Center’s Visiting Scholar Program continues to demonstrate strong international impact and scientific value. Two visiting scientists from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, who completed their year-long training earlier this year, have provided highly positive reports of their experience in the laboratories of the Wadsworth Center.

Both scientists brought extensive prior international training, having received their PhDs from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Their feedback highlights not only the excellence of Wadsworth’s scientific environment but also the Center’s collaborative and mentoring culture.

One of the visiting scholars, Dr. Jintana Panmanee, published a reflective essay titled “My CryoEM Training Journey at Wadsworth Center, Albany, NY” on her university’s blog. She described her year in the Cryo-Electron Microscopy (CryoEM) Laboratory under the Wadsworth Center’s Dr. Haixin Sui as one of the most transformative experiences of her career. Her report emphasized:

  • Intensive hands-on training in sample preparation, data collection, and 3D image reconstruction;
  • A highly supportive and collaborative environment within the Sui Lab; and
  • The opportunity to build sustainable international collaborations in structural biology.

The second visiting scholar recently received the NIH Emerging Global Leader Award (K43) –a prestigious recognition that will support his continued collaboration with Wadsworth scientists on CryoEM-based biomedical research.

Together, these outcomes illustrate the Wadsworth Center’s role as a global hub for advanced research training, mentorship, and partnership – enhancing New York State’s scientific reputation while building international capacity in public health and biomedical science.
