On October 22, 2026, staff from the Wadsworth Center’s Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory met with colleagues from Ontario, Canada’s Radiation Protection Services Laboratory, a provincial laboratory operated by the Government of Ontario, to establish a relationship between similar programs.
Participants discussed shared technologies, instrumentation, laboratory methods, and operational challenges, as well as opportunities for future collaboration.
The meeting was initiated by Emergency Management Ontario after New York State joined the Northern Emergency Management Assistance Compact (NEMAC) in June 2026. NEMAC facilitates cross-border emergency management assistance. This new connection has the potential to strengthen laboratory-based radiological emergency response capabilities in both jurisdictions.
